What is a CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture
A mutual partnership between a farmer and a community of supporters who buy shares of the farm's harvest each year.
We grow the food and you eat it! A perfect relationship!
The CSA shares are typically paid for in the late winter and early spring. During these months are when most of the operating costs for a farm occur (seeds, fertilizer, potting soil, new equipment purchase and repairs, etc.).
The CSA for Mighty Food Farm is 50-60% of the farms annual revenue. Your membership means we can plan on a certain amount of income and you are ensured a steady supply of vegetables throughout the seasons.
Our CSA is different from others, because you get to choose what is in your CSA share each week. We love offering our CSA members the ability to choose. On farm pick ups choose from a displayed selection of veggies each week. Members choose their allotted items based on their share size. Our online ordering system for the Dorset Market Pick up makes it easy to fill your CSA "cart", hit submit, and come to pick up your CSA share. Being a part of our farm gets you access to Pick Your Own flowers, strawberries, peas, beans, and herbs during the summer months and our farm-store.
How Do You Contribute to the Farm?
By purchasing CSA shares early on, CSA members enable the farmer to have a solid start to the growing season. Once the season begins, the members receive a weekly share of seasonable vegetables cultivating a direct farmer to consumer relationship.
The farmer benefits from membership payments coming in during the spring "cash crunch" and from the knowledge that the produce they are growing already has a home. The CSA member benefits from the seasonal bounty of fresh produce and from the relationship they develop with the people who they are growing their food. CSA members often express their excitement of knowing where their food is coming from and the growing process.
